The first thing that I do when I have a client that's been arrested for
drug trafficking is I put myself between my client and law enforcement or my client and the prosecutor.
The most important thing for a client to do when they're arrested for any type of drug infraction is to keep quiet.
Do not say anything. Anything you say will just make it worse. That's why you have an attorney. Let the attorney do the speaking for you. I am that filter to make sure that my client is doing--taking the acts that's best for him or her, not what's best for the government.
I want to give my client options. If he wants to give information, great, let's control it from that aspect. If he doesn't want to give information, we'll control it from that aspect also. But we want to gain immediate control of the case so my client is calling the shots and not the police agency.
The cost of having a drug conviction is significant because if you think about it, it can cost you your job, your family, your car, your future, reputation, probably most significantly, it can cost you your freedom.
